W.Bro M.C. Cummings W.M. 2010 |
On Friday 5th February, the Lodge met for the first meeting of 2010. There were 11 Brethren of the Lodge in attendance with 11 visiting Brethren.
The first meeting of the year in this Lodge is the meeting when the new Worshipful Master is Installed so after various other items on the agenda, W.Bro M.C. Cummings was installed as Master of the Lodge for the term of one year.
For this very special meeting, the Lodge had the pleasure of a visit from the Right Worshipful W.Bro R.G.H. Goddard, The Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Worcestershire who lead the Provincial Team in the ceremony.
W.Bro Mervyn, like his predecessor is a very experienced Freemason and his knowledge will be very beneficial to the Junior brethren of the Lodge.
The second highlight of the meeting came when the Lodge was rewarded for its excellent progress with the 2011 appeal with a New Worshipful Masters Gavel and Sounding Block. This was presented to the Lodge by the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master along with The Provincial Secretary W.Bro H. Wilson who both congratulated and praised the Lodge for its continued efforts.
In return, and by a remarkable co-incidence, the Lodge was yet again in another fortunate position to be able to give to the 2011 Charity appeal, another £1000 cheque which was handed to the Provincial Grand Master, who once again gave his thanks to the Lodge.
Another very special event that took place on this night was the very successful ballot that took place for two Honorary members and all members of the Lodge ware delighted to welcome firstly W.Bro Colin Woodward P.J.G.D., a very, very experienced and well respected Freemason who is well known throughout many Provinces. Secondly, we welcomed back to the Lodge, W.Bro Ray Hart P.Prov J.G.D. W.Bro Ray is, as far as we know, the only living Founder Member of the Lodge and has been mentioned several times throughout this site.
At the Festive Board, the new Master was honoured in the usual way and made a big fuss of and honoured with a very nice speech from W.Bro Paul Feetum.
The Almoners Raffle continued to help boost the Charity collection and was very surprisingly won by the Provincial Grand Master who very generously followed the Lodge tradition and handed it back for further re-raffling. It should be pointed out that it has become a tradition in this Lodge that if any Lodge member wins the bottle it is usually handed back for re-raffle (the last bottle we had, raised over £1000 for Charity).
The charity collection along with the raffle raised a massive £380 which was very gratefully received by the Charity Steward who promptly stood up and once again praised the Lodges efforts.
All in all a very busy but very good night - Until our next merry meeting..!
