On Friday 1st April 2011, the Lodge met for the third meeting of 2011. There were 10 brethren of the Lodge in attendance with 2 visiting brethren. The lodge was also pleased to have W.Bro Jim Sojka in attendance who is the Representative from the Worcestershire Province.
After the usual admin and greetings, the lodge got down to business. The planned work for this meeting was simply to Open and Close the Lodge in the 3 Degrees and give an explanation of the Working Tools of each Degree.
For each Degree in Freemasonry there is a set of Working Tools that help to remind us of how our morals play such an important part in our lives, and these help us to become better people, not better than anyone else but better in ourselves.
These Working Tools would be the traditional working tools of a Stone Mason, but as we are not all operative Masons, we apply these tools to our morals. As an example, in the first degree, the Working Tools of that Degree are the 24 inch gauge, the commom Gavel and the Chisel.
The 24 inch gauge would be used to measure the Stone Mason's work but as a Freemason, the 24-in Gauge represents the twenty-four hours of the day, part to be spent in prayer, part in labour and refreshment, and part in serving a friend or Brother in time of need, without detriment to ourselves or connections.
So the Lodge was opened in each of the Degrees and the Working Tools for each Degree explained expertly by the designated Brethren. The remainder of the meeting went well and the Lodge was closed about 19.20.
At the Festive Board, the Brethren were served a fine meal and in the usual fashion much wine was drank. In the raffle, W.Bro John Painter won the bottle of Whiskey, signed it and handed it back for re-raffle at the next meeting.
W.Bro Senior Warden gave the toast to the Worshipful Master and W.Bro Ted Kettleborough once again sang the Masters song. The toast to the visitors was given by W.Bro Andy Ball
The Charity collection raised a total of £185, another excellent effort for so few people.
Another excellent night where it was quality not quantity that mattered. Another successful night for the Logde. We look forward now to our Summer Break but we shall be arranging a small imformal get together in the Summer.
Until our next merry meeting
